I was on my way to the Gym with my little sister today, when she asked me, “Did you hear?” I said, “Hear what?” She said, “Dave Mirra committed suicide.” My heart stopped, I looked at her, trying to read her facial expression, thinking maybe it was some type of sick joke she was trying to pull on me… But her facial expression didn’t change, and she had that dead-serious look. In all honesty, it’s pretty tough for me to even type this at the moment.
“Cops say the 41 year old’s body was found in his truck in Greenville, North Carolina Thursday with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
We’re told he had been in the area visiting with friends.
Dave Mirra was an inspiration to millions of us BMX riders, whether you’re old school, or new. His accomplishments far outnumber most guys to ever hop on a BMX bike. He was not only an inspiration for us to ride BMX, but a role-model for this thing we call life. No matter what I type, I surely wont be able to express how I feel right now. All I can say is… The world lost a good soul today. Not just the BMX scene but the world. Here are some of my favorite videos of Dave. Click that play button, and remember the one and only DAVE MIRRA.
Depression isn’t a joke people. If you ever feel depressed, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Whether it be your family, friends, or going to see a doctor. Most who feel depressed, wont admit to it. You have to recognize it and act.
